MEET THE Teacher

Hey, I'm John Oliver Marin Araque!

John Oliver Marin Araque began studying guitar with Master Fabio Hernan Arboleda at the Institute of Fine Arts, University of Quindío in Colombia. He continued his training and won a scholarship at the Artistic Foundation Gentil Montaña studying with the masters Gentil Montaña and Luis Fernando Valencia. He has participated in many master classes with well-known teachers, and represented the institute of Fine Arts at the University of Quindio in Colombia in radio programs at Caracol Radio station, including additional stations in Bogota, Colombia.

In February 2008, he was invited to participate in the important guitar event Musicampus 2008 held in Cordoba - Argentina, for which the University provided a full scholarship. In this event, he had the opportunity to play the guitar in a recital at the Museum of La Cumbre.

He has also participated in performances in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Montevideo, Uruguay, and New York. He earned a Bachelors of Musical Arts with Emphasis in Guitar from the Faculty of Arts ASAB University Francisco José de Caldas, under the direction of masters Sonia Viteri from Colombia and Pedro Angel from Venezuela. He has been head of the guitar faculty at PACONY since 2014, has performed at Steinway Hall in Manhattan and Unity Church in Queens, and is the regular guitarist for services at Crossway Church in the Bronx.
